Aaaarrrgghhh so excited. Star Wars: Battlefront is releasing
later this year, 17th November, but some lucky Stormtroopers have early private
Alpha access for game engine tech testing to help the developers with their
debugging.
Star Wars: Battlefront is under development by DICE and
Electronic Arts on the Frostbite 3 engine, which is the same engine as the one
used in the latest Battlefield title, that was also made by DICE. We have the
high Star Wars Battlefront system requirements, that people are requested to
have to enter the Battlefront tech alpha. Lets take a look
Yesterday EA capitalised on the fact that Batman released
too early, by stating that they would take their sweet time with a PC release
of Battlefront if they felt it needed it. Clever marketing that. Anyway, PC
Star Wars Battlefront Alpha will enable preloading for the players on 1st July.
On the 2nd July at 9am (we presume UK time) Star Wars Battlefront Alpha will be
available to gamers to play. Below listed are the requirements for the Alpha.
Star Wars: Battlefront Minimum System Requirements [Alpha]
OS: Win 7 SP1, Win 8/8.1 (64-bit Operating System Required)
CPU: Intel Core i5-2300, 2.8 GHz or AMD FX 8350, 4.0 GHz
RAM: 6 GB System Memory
GPU RAM: 2 GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon HD 7970
DX: Directx 11
Net: Broadband Internet connection
Naturally, as a tech assessment trial these are some powerful
minimum requirements for Battlefront, especially on the GPU front. The CPU
segment which includes a fairly old second generation i5-2300 shouldn't be
quite the same barrier to entry and the same is the case with AMD FX 8350.
However, an Nvidia GTX 680 and AMD Radeon HD 7970 are both top end graphics
cards and former flagships.
DICE hasn't detailed the level of settings that these cards
would be able to run Battlefront at, but as far as we can predict SW
Battlefront would run pretty comfortably on High settings at 1080p, if
optimization is good at the time of Alpha. However, all testers should expect a
bunch of bugs and possibly even missing textures. After all, the purpose of the
Alpha test is to identify levels of technical stability.
So to recap, specs are high because it is an alpha build
tech demo. Minimum specs displayed here will be lowered come the final release
of Battlefront. The stability and experience of Battlefront is still very much
under development and can change significantly between now and release. If you
are wondering about your chances of getting in on the Alpha testing for Star
Wars Battlefront, we are advised that applications for Star Wars: Battlefront
Alpha invites ended last Tuesday, 20th June.
