EA Is Prepared To Delay Star Wars Battlefront If Its Not Ready In November Claims COO

EA has said it's prepared to delayed Star Wars: Battlefront if the game isn’t of a high enough quality by November, despite protestations from the bean counters. In the wake of yet enough disastrous game launch with Batman: Arkham Knight, and the troubles which plagued EA's own Battlefield 4 launch, EA COO Peter Moore claims the game will be delayed if it simply isn't good enough.

We’ll believe that when we (hopefully don’t) see it. At a glance it appears as if Star Wars: Battlefront is undelayable, with DICE’s multiplayer shooter perfectly poised to ride the hype of Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, as well as the all-important holiday period sales.

"Well you can’t ship it if it doesn’t work or the quality isn’t right. You just bite the bullet," said Moore. “Trust me, shipping Battlefield: Hardline in March was not the easiest thing to do from a business perspective, but it was the right thing to do from a player perspective.”

DICE is obviously working on a tight timeline to get SW Battlefront out in preparation for the movie, but Moore insists that EA won’t be forced to hit the November launch, whatever the cost. "We'd have no compunction, no hesitation that if something went wrong with Battlefront, if it wasn't right, we would just push it," he said.

Electronic Arts itself has recovered from a disastrous few years with a number of shaky launches, not least DICE’s last game Battlefield 4. This was practically unplayable for gamers on some platforms, but it’s eventually become a fantastic game in its own right.

Moore’s words tell us two things, and it’s a bit of doubled-edged lightsaber. For one, EA is prepared to delay an unfinished game, but two, it’s a tacit admission that DICE is being hurried along to get Star Wars Battlefront out in time to accompany the movie, for better or worse.

What we've seen so far suggests there's little to worry about on this front, Star Wars Battlefront played great on the E3 show floor, with full 40-player matches running on the PlayStation 4. We're also anticipating the first proper PC footage showing up in the coming weeks.
