Wasteland 2:
Game of the Year Edition will be coming as a free upgrade for all current
owners of the post-apocalyptic RPG, developer inXile Entertainment has
announced.
Billed as a massively enhanced and expanded update to the
original game, Wasteland 2: Game of the Year Edition moves the whole game over
to Unity 5, the latest version of the Unity engine. From a visual point of view
this means higher quality character models, improved environmental textures,
and physically-based rendering for lighting.
Thousands of lines of new voice-overs have also been
recorded for the current crop of characters, alongside some pretty significant
gameplay enhancements. The headline act is an all-new Perks & Quirks
system, which allows players to imbue the members of their squad with special
bonuses and abilities, while the Precision Strike system sounds a whole like
Fallout’s V.A.T.S. - targeting individual enemy limbs for crippling effects.
“We wanted to re-affirm our gratitude to our backers and
our dedication to RPG fans, as we have been most fortunate to return to our
roots,” said Brian Fargo, CEO of inXile. “We plan to continue our proud
tradition with Bard’s Tale IV, which we’ll crowdfund later this year.”
The Wasteland 2: Game of the Year Edition is out on this
Summer on PC, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions expected shortly after.
