A couple of weeks ago, Rockstar teased us with a glimpse at Batman:
Arkham Knight’s dual-play feature, but now it’s time for a
comprehensive breakdown of the tag-team combat on offer. The Dark Knight and
pals like Robin, Nightwing, and Catwoman, are all available for a new twist on
Arkham’s combat, allowing players to switch to other characters on the fly to
continue combos, and execute devastating dual-player moves.
Typically the AI will be in control of your partner, while
you control Batman, but you’ll be able to switch seamlessly, mid-combo. In the
extensive footage shown below, it’s Batman and Nightwing teaming up for some
brutal combat, which has seen the number of on-screen enemies go through the
roof to cater for two heroes laying the smackdown.
The system actually works a lot better than I’d anticipated,
the switching is pretty seamless. It’s sure to take some practice to execute
perfectly, particularly when it comes to keeping track of your AI partner, but
the potential’s there for some huge face-offs. There’s a huge opening for co-op
boss fights as well, where dual-play combos are necessary for big take-downs.
Batman: Arkham Knight suffered a short delay recently, and
will now be swooping down on June 23rd worldwide, for PC, PlayStation 4, and
Xbox One.
