Massive Chalice is
launching out of Early Access on June 1st, Double Fine has announced. The
latest title to emerge out the gates of Tim Schafer’s game factory, Massive
Chalice is a turn-based tactical strategy game with a stark aesthetic. You’re
the Immortal Ruler of a nation, taking charge of army embroiled in a several
hundred-year long war with the Cadence.
Double Fine’s twist on the tactical strategy norm is in its
Bloodline system; heroes can be paired off to produce children, with the
resulting offspring a result of randomised genetic traits. A child can inherit
its parent's’ greatest strengths or their worst vulnerabilities, while enforced
permadeath ensuring every great hero is precious.
It’s been in Early Access since late last year, but the move
to release and version 1.0 is bringing with it some changes. In addition to the
usual tuning, fixing, and polishing, the launch version of Massive Chalice will
come with full controller support, a revamped UI, and Steam Achievements.
“After listening to lots and lots of useful feedback on
the mid to endgame, the team has spent a considerable amount of time rebalancing
the game to be more fun, fair, challenging, or punishing, depending on how you
look at it,” reads the launch announcement. “Thanks to everyone who
helped us with this fine tuning, we got some invaluable feedback from you guys.”
Massive Chalice is out on June 1st for PC, with an Xbox One
version coming later down the line. Will you be grabbing this for your
turn-based fix
