What is being currently heard from China is that Qualcomm has finalised the specification sheet for their Snapdragon 820 and they are already sending samples to Smartphone manufacturers.
Back in March at the MWC 2015, Qualcomm teased about launching a high-end chip called the Snapdragon 820 saying that the SoC will integrate the custom designed 64-bit CPU cores called Kyro, thus using the old tried and tested methods.
This custom ARMv8 core is accompanied by new technologies. If these rumors are to believed, this new chip will clock at 3.0GHz , and will use the 14nm node manufacturing technology of Samsung. This is not the first instance that Qualcomm is joining hands with Samsung to improve their chips.
Also, companies such as Sony, HTC, Xiaomi, will be one of the first manufacturers to test out these chips. Xiaomi might also be planning to use this chip in their new phone, Mi 5, if the chip performs well.
Qualcomm might also fix their over-heating issues by using Samsung’s technologies.
Normally a new flagship isn’t expected from Qualcomm this year, but given the fact that the Snapdragon 810 faced a lot of issues, the new model might just make an appearance. The 810 failed miserably in the market, and was deciding the fate of the unlucky devices like the OnePlus Two which were incorporating this chip.
This new expected launch comes as a great relief to many smartphone manufacturing companies who were bound to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810. The LG G4 is also expected to adopt this chip which means that the manufacturers haven’t lost faith in the chip manufacturer.
Keep checking for more updates on the Snapdragon 820 by Qualcomm.
