Supermassive Games has announced its cinematic survival
horror game Until Dawn will be released on August 25th in the US and August 26th
in Europe. There’s a brand new trailer to celebrate the announcement, giving us
a slice of the action from this slasher thriller.
It looks as if Until Dawn will be going full blown butterfly
effect with its choices, with the trailing indicating a massive branching
storyline where every character in the game lives or dies by your decisions.
That and the fickle nature of an axe-wielding mass murderer.
I’m hoping Supermassive Games takes a leaf out of Chunsoft’s
book when it comes to branching decisions. Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward
featured a decision tree with multiple endings, and you could jump around it at
will, discovering what every alternate decision entails and uncovering more
information regarding the mystery as you hit each ending, without having to
replay the entire game.
As it stands Until Dawn is a choice-driven survival horror
game centred around a group of people staying at a remote lodge, who, in
typical slasher fashion, attract the attention of a wandering psychopath intent
on murdering them all. It's out on August 25th on PlayStation 4.
