If Mad Max: Fury Road hasn't done anthing to sate your
appetite for post-apocalyptic car-crushing mayhem, Avalanche Studios could have
just what you need with its Mad Max game
coming later this year. The Just Cause 3 developer
looks to have a lot on its plate at the moment, but if the Savage Road trailer
for Mad Max is any indication, it’s onto a winner.
Having already taken a look at the gameplay components,
Savage Road focuses on the storyline and the characters wrapped up in this
open-world action adventure. Despite the Mad Max movie coming out earlier this
month, the game has no narrative connection, with original characters, setting,
and storyline - but just as many pyrotechnics.
The story revolves around the titular Max, trying to eke an
existence out of the sand covered wastelands. The best way to survive is to
avoid all human contact, but it looks as if Max gets tangled up with a group of
ne'er-do-wells and stripped of his Interceptor car.
Together with help from his companion Chumbucket, Max must
craft a new machine, called the Magnum Opus. Much of Mad Max will be spent
scavenging for parts and upgrades, creating the ultimate wasteland
death-dealing machine.
“Both Max and Chum are acutely aware that the car will
require a powerful V8 engine if it is to survive in battle,” said senior
producer John Fuller. “ In the video you will see that Max ventures
into the heart of Gastown in order to compete in a race to the death. The prize
— the V8 he so desperately needs. First he will have to face his enmity with
Scrotus’ most feared henchman, Stank Gum, a despicable character who revels in
spreading Scrotus’ terror in the most grotesque ways possible. The closer Max is
driven to breaking point, the more he struggles with his sanity.”
Mad Max is out on September 1st in North America and
September 4th in Europe, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
