A Reddit user claiming to be a former audio engineer at Rockstar Games has leaked details Red Dead Redemption 2, all because. “My boss was a major D*** so this is why I am leaking info”
As with any such rumours like this please take everything you read here with a pinch of salt, especially given that your boss being a bit of dick is a weak reason to leak confidential information.
According to the mystery calling himself or herself AnonDN1978 the new game will be titled Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West and will be announced at this years E3. The game will be dry in the same area as the first Red Dead Redemption, but will take place a full 12-years beforehand, focusing on Irish and Seth.
“The game will take place in the same area as the original game, twelve years before the first original game. There will be three playable characters, two of which are from the original game and one will be completely new and will not have much story line, Ill explain in a second. The two “main” characters are Irish and Seth. Irish will be brought up in Ireland and will move to the Americas when he is fifteen and moves to the game setting when he turns twenty one. Seth is from Kansas City and works as a teller in a bank. He then hears of a treasure and uses his life savings to bring his family to Texas in the town of Tumbleweed. Throughout the story we experience him unraveling to his state of mind in the original game, losing his wife, children, home, and possessions to his treasure”
The third character is the most interesting as he will apparently be created by the player and has a strange relationship with Seth and Irish. This player created character appears in the campaign but can’t be used as missions, and is a “gun for hire” for Seth and Irish.
“The third person is a character you create similar to multiplayer in GTA V. You choose his clothes and horse. Although you can unlock outfits for Seth and Irish, the third person (Who you name) can acquire all different kinds of Western tops, bottoms, boots, gloves, and hats.”

Along the way you’ll also bump into characters from the first game like Bonny McFarlane and, most interestingly, John Marston, who at that point would be in the very same gang you had to hunt down in Red Dead Redemption.
Furthermore there’s a new gang system in place.
“A big new part of the RDR prequel is the new gang system. You can join several different gangs, or if you think you are up for it you can join the law enforcement of certain towns, but this will restrict you on things you can do like robbing. Although you can rob it might cost you your hard-earned career and possibly your life. You can also bring in a posse (up to 4-8 friends) to single player, technically co-op now. You can take on certain side missions and a few campaign missions with your posse.”
Your singleplayer progress also carries over to the multiplayer, too.
According to the supposed former employee Rockstar are shooting for a release this year, though it could be pushed back. Furthermore he also mentioned that a PC version would appear about a month after the game arrived on current-gen consoles, which would be a first for Rockstar who are infamous for taking a long time with their PC ports.
A point of contention within the thread is that any new Red Dead game would be the third game in the series, since Red Dead Redemption is technically a sequel to Red Dead Revolver. Many people are using this as an argument to suggest that the mystery man is lying. However, the person is arguing that while Red Dead Redemption is technically a sequel it doesn’t take place within the same universe. The Wikipedia entry itself says as much, citing Redemption as a spirtual successor and not a true sequel.
How much, if any of this, turns out to be true we’ll find out, I suppose. AnonDN1978 provides no proof to back up any of his or her claims, so this could all be utter bullshit. The terrible spelling certainly seems odd, but hey, who knows.
